UDDF Format

UDDF (Universal Dive Data Format) is an open standard for storing dive computer data as XML. Unlike proprietary formats such as DL7, UDDF is designed to work across many different brands and dive log applications. Files use the .uddf extension.

Files in this format use the .uddf extension — for example, my_dive.uddf.

What is inside a UDDF file?

Because UDDF is an XML format, you can open a .uddf file in any text editor and read the contents. A typical file includes:

  • Diver information and equipment list
  • Dive profile (depth and time samples)
  • Maximum depth, bottom time, and water temperature
  • Tank information and gas mixes (for technical dives)
  • Decompression model data and tissue loadings

The XML structure is defined by a published specification, which means different software products can read each other's exports reliably.

Which dive computers and brands use UDDF?

UDDF is supported by a wide range of manufacturers and applications, including:

  • Mares — Icon HD, Puck Pro, Smart series
  • Cressi — Leonardo, Giotto, Cartesio
  • Shearwater Research — Perdix, Teric, Peregrine
  • Heinrichs Weikamp — OSTC series (2, 3, 4, Sport, TR)
  • Atomic Aquatics — Cobalt and Cobalt 2
  • Dräger — Galileo series (via Dräger software)
  • Liquivision — Lynx, Xen, X1, Kaon

Many desktop and mobile dive log applications also export to UDDF, making it a common exchange format when moving dive data between apps.
